Women are more likely to be physically and sexually assaulted or murdered by someone they know—often a family member or intimate partner.
Across the globe, 818 million women have experienced physical or sexual partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner—almost the total population of Sub-Saharan Africa.
In Tanzania, women in formal wage work who are exposed to severe partner abuse (both lifetime and current) have 60 percent lower earnings.
